YOU ARE A SWEETENER

A sweetener is a substance used to sweeten food or drink, especially one other than sugar. An example of a sweetener is Salt because it sweetens food.

Our discussion of today is on the fact that “We are the salt of the earth and the light of the world” (Matthew 5:13-14).
What is Salt? Salt is a substance used to season and preserve food.
You are the salt of the earth……” (Matthew 5:13). We are the salt of the earth and our duty is to sweeten, to add sweetness and remove bitterness. We are to put smiles on the faces of people.
When a food lacks salt, it is not eaten with happiness and smile but once salt, even as little as a pinch, is put in the food, it changes the taste of the food and the attitude of the person eating.
This is how and what we are to do; we are to step into bitter/sad situations going on around us and sweeten it, putting smiles on the faces of people. We do not only sweeten but also we preserve happiness because that is duty of a salt.

We are also the light of the world.
“You are the light of the world….” (Matthew 5:14). We are to illuminate and dispel darkness everywhere we step into.
Have you observed people’s reaction when power is restored in a dark place? My sister says light comes with joy and happiness. This is very true, once power is restored everyone becomes happy, even when you are not using the light for anything, you just want the light to be there. Just a little ray of light can illuminate a room.
This is our duty as light, we are to dispel and cast out darkness everywhere we step into. We are to bring joy and happiness into dark/sad situations.

How can you sweeten and illuminate? “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly father” (Matthew 5:16). You do this by living a life of good deeds, not by only preaching the gospel but by living it. You show love and give to the needy, you care for the people around you, you love your neighbors; generally, you live as a Christian ought to live, observing all the precepts and commandments of God. You need to live it so people can see it and experience it.

When you step into any place or situation, you bring joy and happiness; you make people happy. When we sweeten and illuminate sad situations, we fulfill our main purpose here on earth; which is for men to glorify God through you. “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly father” (Matthew 5:16).  This is because through you, the bitter, sad and dark situations are turned around into happiness; they would glorify God who used you.
If you noticed, I used we are to sweeten and illuminate situations we “step intonot are; this is because are means you must be present there to sweeten but when you step into a place, by just coming into the place and not remaining there, you bring happiness and even when you leave, the situation does not go back to being bitter; we preserve and keep the happiness. Meaning you must not necessarily always be in a place to sweeten it but your one-time appearance alone can do the magic.

What happens if you do not sweeten and illuminate? “… But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless” (Matthew 5:13b)

Remain blessed and I love you.
