WHY SIT ON A ROCKING CHAIR?

A rocking chair according to Wikipedia is a type of chair with two curved bands (also known as rockers) attached to the bottom of the legs, connecting the legs on each side to each other. The rockers contact the floor at only two points, giving the occupant the ability to rock back and forth by shifting his/her weight or pushing lightly with his/her feet.

Worrying is something that is actually inevitable in life but it is like sitting on a rocking chair because your thoughts go to and fro but you still find yourself at the same spot, you do not move an inch. It gives you something to do but gets you nowhere.

Let me help us stand from that rocking chair of worry

“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life-whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear….” (Matthew 6:25). You do not have to worry or break you head over what you will eat, drink or wear. Once you are a child of God, you are automatically in a covenant with Him and He will provide all you need because He knows you need these things, not only as a reward for the works you do for Him but also to sustain and encourage you to do more works. When someone is appreciated and well taken of for he does, he would do more. If He can provide for the birds that do not plant or sow but have food always to eat, won’t He provide for you that is much more valuable to Him and made in His image? (Matthew 6:26)
No matter how much we worry, we cannot add a single moment to our lives (Matthew 6:27). Instead of adding, we subtract moments from our lives because worry stresses your brain, gives you wrinkles because you definitely cannot worry and smile. Just like a rocking chair, no matter the weight and strength you apply to rock the chair, you can never move from that spot, and if you try harder, you could fall.

We worry about dressings and clothing, our wardrobes have not been changed etc. This bible passage shook something in me “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.” (Matthew 6:28-30). Sometimes, we look at flowers and admire them, even some cloth designs are made from those of flowers. Who made these flowers? Even as wealthy as Solomon was, he dressing was nothing compared to that of the lilies. If God can cloth these lilies that can be trampled on at any moment, do you think He would let you dress and look haggard? Of course not, He said He would make us FISHERS OF MEN, and NOT CHASERS OF MEN. He would make us look as good and beautiful as His kingdom is so we can easily attract souls to the kingdom.

Seek you first the kingdom of God and EVERYOTHER THING will added unto you” (Matthew 6:33). You know why I love this scripture? I love it because you can use it to hold God to ransom. As long as you keep to your own part of the deal which is putting His kingdom first, as your primary goal; He has no other choice but to supply your needs. He does not go back on His word or break His covenant.

There are so many instances in the bible where God made provisions for His people. Example, the Israelites in the wilderness, they were fed day and night.

In conclusion, do not worry about tomorrow but focus on today; tomorrow will be taken care of (Matthew 6:34). In case you do not know, God has a daily budget for us all. “For your father knows exactly what you need even before you ask Him” (Matthew 6:8b). My dear, you are fully secured, all He would do is take out from your budget for each day and give to you.

Like I said earlier, worry is inevitable in life and in this world we are in presently but I am sure we have all tried the worrying part but it neither solves the problem nor takes it away; why don’t we try THE TRUSTING PART and we would never be disappointed. (1 Peter 5:7, Psalm 55:22).

I hope this message makes us stand up from that rocking chair.

Remain blessed and I love you.
