This is mainly for the ladies but guys are welcomed to read
because you have sisters and ladies close to us. Here are some tips to keeping
and having a healthy vagina as taught by my friend Dr. Okorafor Chinwe;
WEAR COTTON
PANTS
When you wear something tight or something
that induces sweat like linen, you make the vagina sweat. Truth be told, when
she said this, I was like “Wow!!! The vagina sweats too” and she said “Of
course, it is part of your body and it has pores”. When there is no adequate
amount of air getting to it, it sweats like every other part of the body.
When the vagina sweats, it becomes moist
and bacteria, fungi and the rest love moist areas because they replicate faster
there.
Imagine what happens when you wear a pant
that is not cotton, say linen, then you wear “tight” and then you put on a
tight skirt for about 14hours in a day. The vagina will not just sweat, it will
suffocate… LOL... I am not saying we should not wear “tights” but there are
cotton tights that are not as sweaty as those made of linen.
The vulva is different from the vagina. The
vulva is the outer part we see, but the vagina is inside. We are to wash the
vulva and not the vagina, the vagina cleanses itself.
While washing the vulva, use mild soaps and
not medicated soaps. In our body, we have “Normal Flora” these are bacteria
that are not harmful to the body; an example of one in the vagina is the
candida. When you use medicated soap, you provoke the normal flora and it
becomes a harmful bacteria, causing an infection.
At this point, I realized not all
infections are STDs or STIs, some of them are provoked normal flora.
AVOID
INSERTING YOUR FINGERS INTO YOUR VAGINA
Some normal floras in a part of the body
may not be normal flora in another part of the body. For instance, the normal
flora in the vagina may be infectious and not a normal flora in the cervix or
the womb. When you insert your finger into your vagina, you move the normal
floras in the vagina upwards towards the cervix or the womb where it becomes
infectious and causes infertility especially Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID).
Asides moving up the normal floras, there
could be germs on our fingers that irritate or provoke the normal floras,
making them infectious.
After urinating, clean with WHITE tissue from
front to back and not from back to front, so you do not move bacteria from the
anus to the vagina. Also, do not use scented or colored tissues. These perfumed
products can disrupt the vagina’s healthy natural balance. If God had intended
the vagina to smell like roses or lavender, don’t you think He would have done
so?
Hope
we learnt at least one tip on how to keep down there healthy?
