REDUCING THE EFFECT OF STRESS

More health tips. Today, we would talk on some tips to reduce stress.

Whenever you undergo stress, you release the stress hormones and these are the bad hormones that lead to hypertension etc. We must actually undergo stress because we cannot avoid it, but there is a way to handle and relieve ourselves of stress.

There are good hormones in the body that help counteract the stress hormones, they reduce the effect of the stress hormones; examples of these hormones are Endorphins and Serotonin. They allow the body feel calm and relaxed, they relieve tension and help you sleep better.

Stress has effects on you only when your stress hormones are more than the good hormones

Ways to release these good hormones:

·        By Laughing: Laughing is one sure way to release these hormones. It is advisable to do things that make you laugh every day. After the stress of the day, you can just watch a comedy. There is this comedy a friend introduced me to “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne”. Oh! My God, this comedy cracks me up each time I watch it and I do not ever get tired of watching it. I recommend it to you, you would so laugh to the point tears come down your cheeks.
Sometimes, we stress ourselves throughout the day and come back home to watch horror movies, tragic movies etc. that will add to the stress hormones released during the day.
·
What we eat: Some of the things we eat that release these hormones include
                                                        I.   Chocolates: They contain both endorphins and serotonin production, they also prevent aging. Did not say we should always eat packets of chocolates in one sitting; and then in the name of releasing good hormones, we release ounces of fat.
II.   Fruits: Take a lot of fruits. One nice combination to release these hormones is banana and groundnut, we from Nigeria love this combination. Lol.
III.   Spicy Foods: Foods that contain enough spice produce these hormones. Please don’t go licking curry, Maggi and the rest…

·         Exercise: Exercises are good in decreasing stress hormones and increasing endorphins. Besides, a good workout helps one look good, keep fit and keeps the body healthy.

·         Kissing and Sex: Hmmm!!!! I know many of us would be so happy but this is for married people only… Lol.

Let’s start releasing our good hormones and reducing the stress hormones for better living and longevity.

HE IS ALWAYS THERE

Read this story from my devotional and it increased my faith in God and gave me the assurance that He is always there even when it does not feel or seem so.

Mark’s heart broke to hear that his wife, Susan (not me o!, writing the story as i read it..Lol) had lost her sight but he knew what had to be done. He promised Susan that each morning and evening, he would ride the bus with her, for as long as it took until she got used to it. For weeks, Mark, dressed in his military uniform and all, accompanied Susan to and from work each day. He taught her how to rely on her hearing to determine where she was and how to adapt to her new environment. He helped her befriend the bus drivers who could watch out for her, and save her a seat each time. Susan finally decided that she was ready to try the trip on her own. Monday morning before she left, she threw her arms around Mark, her temporary bus-riding companion, her husband, and her best friend. Her eyes filled with tears of gratitude for his loyalty, his patience, and his love. She said good-bye and they went their separate ways.

Each day on her own wasn’t bad and she had never felt better. She was going to work all by herself. On Friday morning, Susan took the bus to work as usual. As she was paying the fare to exit the bus, the driver said, “Boy, I sure do envy you”. She wasn’t sure if he was speaking to her or not. “Who would envy a blind woman, struggling to live?”, she thought. Curious, she asked the driver, “Why do you envy me?” “It must feel good to be taken care of and protected like you are.” He said. Having no idea what the driver was talking about, she asked, “What do you mean?” “You know, every morning for the past week, a fine-looking gentleman in a military uniform has been standing across the corner watching you as you get off the bus. He makes sure you cross the street safely and he watches you until you enter your office building. Then he blows you a kiss, gives you a little salute and walks away. You are one lucky lady”. Tears of happiness poured down Susan’s cheeks.

For although she could not physically see Mark, he was there nonetheless.

Dear one, do you feel you are all alone and have become depressed that no-one cares? I want to tell you this morning that God is always there with you. If Mark in his human love can always be there for his wife Susan, do you think the one who loves you divinely will leave you? Just like the Liverpool slogan, I tell you “You will never walk alone”, He follows you daily. He takes every step with you.

Even when you cannot see Him, or it feels like He is not there; He is there cheering you up, blowing kisses to you and saluting you. Do not lose hope because He will never leave you all alone, He is closer than you think.

Remain blessed and I love you.

YOU’RE NOT USELESS...YOU’VE GOT A PURPOSE

Do you feel like you have no direction or reason for being alive? Or do people say you are useless and would never become anything meaningful in life and you now feel that way?

Let me clear this feeling or perception by asking this question; “Does a manufacturer produce a good without a reason or purpose for that good?” NO!!!!!!
A manufacturer does not produce a good and then define its purpose; the purpose of a good is declared or defined first before the good is produced.

Same thing applies to us. Before a child is born, before God creates and forms a baby, God declares a purpose and destiny for that child. Every child born into the world is either born to solve an existing problem or in anticipation for a problem. (Romans 8:29).
God does not plan to bring anyone to a useless end; for His plans for us are of good and to bring us all to an expected end. (Jeremiah 29:11). A fulfilled end.
Nobody on earth is purposeless or without a destiny to fulfil. It may seem so only if the person has not discovered his or her purpose.

Your mistakes or failures in life cannot cancel or terminate your destiny and God’s purpose for you.
This goes out to the parents and everyone intending to become a parent. No child brought to the world through you is useless or a mistake. Some parents maltreat their kids either because the child was not the sex they wanted or because the child “was a mistake or not planned for”. Nothing takes God unawares, if the child is not meant to come into the world at that time then it would not happen. In most cases, we observe that these kids that are treated this way turn out to be stars of their families. Every child is special and has a unique destiny. As parents, you need to support and not discourage your kids.

Sometimes, during the pregnancy stage of a woman, the devil would try to bring about the termination of the baby with different forms of attacks or after childbirth, there would be different attacks against the family or the child. Please, do not see this baby as “devil-sent” as people tag it; the devil attacks children he knows would be great in life, which would be stars, so he wants to destroy the seed before it can yield the fruits.

Let me give examples of children whose destinies were defined before they were born in the bible:
  • Our Lord Jesus: “She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, BECAUSE HE WILL SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS” (Matthew 1:21, John 1:29).
  • Samson: “Because you will conceive and give birth to a son. No razor may be used on his head, because the boy is to be a Nazarite, set apart to God from birth, AND HE WILL BEGIN THE DELIVERANCE OF ISRAEL FROM THE HANDS OF THE PHILISTINE.” (Judges 13:2-5).
  • John the Baptist: “Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God. And he will go on before the Lord……….. to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” (Luke 1:13-17).
  • Moses: Born to redeem the people of Israel from Egypt.
  • Esther: Born to deliver the Jews.
And a host of others.
You may say these are examples from the bible, let me give a well-known example of a great person who was once declared useless; Bill Gates and a host of them.

Some of us may ask how we can know our purpose or calling. Here are some hints or clues, though not 100% certain because God may have a different plan:
  • Passion: What you have great passion doing. Though, our passion may not actually be God’s purpose for us.
  • Pain: What causes you to grieve, what problem pains your heart and causes you to cry. This pain causes you to pray for empowerment to change the situation.
  • Provocation: This is divine provocation. E.g. Moses, he was provoked each time he saw people being oppressed. When he saw an Israelite being oppressed by an Egyptian, he got provoked and killed the Egyptian; when he saw some women being oppressed in Midian, he was provoked into action. His purpose was to deliver the Israelites from oppression.

Just bear in mind this “A manufacturer does not produce a good without first defining its purpose”
PRAYER
  1. Lord, help me to know the purpose for which I was created.
  2. Lord, please show me the me in me.

Remain blessed and I love you.
