A certain farmer, who had a very large and productive farm
hired labourers to harvest his crops that were ripe and ready for
harvest. After instructing the labourers on what to do, he embarked on a
journey. Few of the labourers worked day and night harvesting the crops while
others stayed back, relaxing, believing "there was enough time to harvest the
crops". Due to the fact that the harvest was plenty and there were few hands
harvesting, birds and other pests ate up the crops. One day, the owner of the
farm came back unknown to them and found out that most of the crops
have been destroyed by pests, he was displeased and called the labourers to
find out what happened. When he found out some of the labourers did not work,
he sent them out without pay and rewarded those that worked for Him.
We, Christians, are the labourers while those who are not yet
saved are the harvest. There is no time anymore, the harvest is more than ripe, there is still so much
ground to cover (John 4:35). We are all labourers but some of us have abandoned
our work as labourers and harvesters, thereby allowing the devil through
several means destroy the harvest and take away souls.
We are not saved to keep the salvation for ourselves but we
are saved to SAVE. To bring those who are in darkness into His marvelous light,
to set the captives free from the bondage of sin and of the devil.
The work of harvesting souls and evangelism is not for a few
but for all of us who have been saved. Christ chose His 12 disciples not just
to become His friends or companions but to also make them FISHERS OF MEN, so
that when He goes, they would carry on the reason for which He came. We are His
disciples, we are His followers and we are meant to carry on THE GREAT
COMMISSION as stated in Mark 16 verses 15 – 18 “He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news
to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever
does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who
believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison,
it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and
they will get well."(NIV)
Any tree that does not yield fruits, that does not reproduce
will be uprooted and cast into the fire (Matthew 7:19). And for every tree that yields fruit, the Lord of the harvest prunes (takes care of and supplies more nutrients to it) so it bears more fruit (John 15:2). Saving souls is not an
option but it’s mandatory if you want to have eternal life and enter the
kingdom of God.
There are people close to you, who you know are not yet in
the light, why not bring them in now it is not too late before the birds and
other pests (the devil) eats them up and destroys them. For every soul you had
the opportunity to save or share the good news with but you did not, his/her
soul will be required of you.
There is a field of souls out there waiting to be harvested.
We can harvest souls through different means, asides going out on the streets to
preach or standing on the pulpit, we could also reach out through social media
or any means which you know would yield fruits. There is also the intercessory
part, where you spend time praying for souls out there. According to the second verse of
the song 'field of souls by Brooklyn Tabernacle', “One shouts the gospel in the streets for everyone to hear he's bold to
everyone he meets and the Word is loud and clear. Another cries alone and prays
in silence on her knees before the throne day after day where human eyes don't
see.”
Let us all carry on the great commission and save others
same way we have been saved. For a crown awaits all harvesters.
Remain blessed and I love you.
