“A skyscraper needs careful planning before it can be built. First, a big hole a few stories deep is dug into the earth. Sometimes this foundation reaches into solid rock. Then steel and concrete beams and columns are placed into it. They carry the weight of the superstructure. When the foundation is finished cranes are used to raise a steel frame up into the sky. The pieces of this frame are bolted together. As it moves upward other workers lay floors and hang in the outside walls. The complete structure of the skyscraper must be finished before the inside systems can be installed. A skyscraper must also be able to hold off strong winds.”
The foundation of a skyscraper is a few stories deep into the earth; this is actually a full building just for foundation.
Foundation is the basis or groundwork
of anything. The foundation of
everything, not just buildings but also our lives is very important.
The trainings you undergo, the values and principles
you imbibe determines if you stand or collapse when life storms and challenges
hit you. We should not just concentrate on becoming great or successful quickly
without having a solid foundation, being rooted and undergoing thorough
training.
It is not the beauty of a building you should look at;
it’s the construction of the foundation that will stand the test of time.
David Allan Coe
The beauty and appearance of a building is
not what helps it withstand storms but its foundation does. The strength of
your foundation determines how far you go because it is the foundation that
bears and carries the weight of your life.
Laying a solid foundation and going through
adequate training or discipleship may take a while or longer than you expect
but once you have a solid foundation, you can withstand almost everything life
throws at you.
In our world today, almost everyone wants a “short-cut”
to being successful or achieving something, no one wants to undergo the right
processes and training; forgetting that “short-cut will one day cut you short”. A
medical consultant spends years in training before becoming a consultant. Great
success requires patience and hard work.
Let us also build our foundation on Christ,
the solid rock and we would withstand whatever challenge life presents. Same
way the foundation of a skyscraper sometimes get to a solid rock, we need to
lay our foundations on the sure and only solid rock which is Christ.
Do you wish to rise? Begin by descending. You plan a tower
that will pierce the clouds? Lay first the foundation of humility. Saint Augustine
